The independent corrugated board group is following a digital investment with a high speed large format corrugated rotary die cutter.

Cepac has become the first UK company to install the Koenig & Bauer ChromaCut X Pro the latest version of what was previously the CorruCut.

The flexo rotary die cutter is being installed at the group’s Rawcliffe Bridge factory in Yorkshire and follows less than a year after Cepac Digital installed EFI’s Nozomi C18000.

At the time of ordering the new high board line, Cepac managing director Stephen Moss said: We continue to position ourselves as one of the most sophisticated producers of high quality printed packaging, thanks to our dedicated manufacturing sites across the UK, including flexo pre print, flexo post print and digital print.

With this state of the art flexo rotary die cutter being installed at Rawcliffe Bridge, we are enhancing the positioning of this site as a producer of high quality post print corrugated packaging, and this major investment gives us ‘best in class’ when it comes to print to die cut accuracy.

Rawcliffe Bridge is our centre of excellence for speciality and transit packaging and this machine will assist us in further expansion into relevant food and pharmaceutical markets building upon our recently acquired BRC AA+ accreditation.

The press is expected to be in productionbefore the end of June. The decision to sign for the ChromaCut followed with online demonstrations of the new machine and visits to companies operating the press. That “won out full confidence” says Moss. “Koenig & Bauer shares our innovative focus and the ChromaCut X Pro will allow us to raise the possibilities for our customers to a whole new level.”

The line can handle corrugated sheets up to 2.8 metres wide by 1.5 metres long and to 9mm thick and runs at up to 12,000sph dependent on substrate and other conditions. Cepac will configure the ChromaCut with a Dücker DPF prefeeder and an Avanti Pegasus palletiser, both of which are integrated into the press management system.

Despite its size the machine is designed for swift job changes with a presettable rotary die cutting unit inline, by loading a secondary die cutting from while the machine is running. The technology also enables waste sheets to be ejected to deliver zero defect sheets in the delivery.

Cepac operates from four sites in Yorkshire supplying all styles of corrugated packaging for a diverse range of sectors from point of sale to ecommerce, food and drink to industrial, consumer goods to transit.
